Living in Idaho, we all enjoy spending time outdoors during the summer while exploring all the beautiful spaces our great state has to offer. Whether you’re off to the lake, camping in the mountains with the kids, or heading out on the next big adventure, caring for your teeth can easily become an overlooked task while traveling. However, maintaining your Boise dental health this summer can be easy with just a little planning.

  1. Pack a Travel Size Toothbrush and Toothpaste – While it may seem obvious, many people forget to add these things to their checklists. With all the food, camping gear, and necessities going through your mind as you pack, a toothbrush and toothpaste are often a basic need that’s likely to be forgotten.
  2. Dental Floss – Flossing your teeth should never be a chore you take a vacation from. It’s just as important to do daily during your trip as brushing. Also, there is also nothing worse than getting something caught in your teeth and you don’t have any. Even worse, if you don’t pack it, you’re more likely to try and improvise with other things that may damage your teeth and gums.
  3. Bottled Water – Whether you’re boating on a lake, or camping in the mountains, it’s important to pack more water than you think you’ll need. Not only is it important to stay hydrated but you will need it for personal hygiene as well!

No matter where your summer adventures take you this summer, practicing good Boise dental habits is a must. If you find yourself unable to brush and floss your teeth for a few hours, it’s important to keep in mind that rinsing your mouth out with water, and chewing sugar-free gum can help remove food particles in your mouth while reducing the growth of unwanted bacteria. Either way, you look at it, you will thank yourself in the long run when you take a little extra time this summer taking care of your teeth & gums. Just because you may be roughing it, doesn’t mean you have to be rough on your teeth!

At Summit Dental we love all the happy, healthy Treasure Valley smiles out there. We strive to provide you with the very best Boise dental care, and wish you all a wonderful summer!
