A Boise Dentists Guide to Dental Implants

A missing tooth can detract from your smile and affect your confidence. Thankfully, however, the Boise dentists at Summit Dental Group can replace missing teeth with an appealing and permanent solution. That’s why we’d like to provide you with the following guide to dental implants.

What Teeth Dental Implants Can Replace

Every Treasure Valley patient is unique. That’s why dental implant procedures vary from person-to-person. However, the Boise dentists at Summit Dental Group provides dental implants solutions for all the following dental needs:

  • Single Tooth Replacement
  • Anterior Teeth Replacement
  • Posterior Teeth Replacement
  • All Upper and/or Lower Teeth Replacement

Implant

From start to finish, the implant process can take several months. The first step is to install a medical-grade titanium screw into your jawbone. Your dentist will do this by making a small incision into your gum so that the implant can be inserted. Stitching isn’t necessary, and there is little to no bleeding involved. In fact, multiple implants can be placed at once.

Healing

Following implantation, the area around the implant needs a few months to heal. During that time, your jawbone will form around the implant. This process is called osseointegration. If you are uncomfortable about your smile during this period, you can choose to have a temporary crown put in place. This will allow you to eat and speak normally while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing smile.

Abutment & Crown

After your implant has healed, it will be time to place an abutment on the implant that serves as the base for your new tooth. Once installed, a crown will be placed and secured over it to complete your dental implant. This will provide you with a permanent solution that looks and feels just like a natural tooth.

Caring For A Crown

Caring for a crown is just like caring for your natural teeth. This includes brushing and flossing twice a day and visiting your Boise dentist regularly. It’s also important to be gentle with your teeth to help preserve your crown and prevent you from having to get it replaced in the near future. This means not grinding your teeth or using them as tools to open packages. While it might take a little time to get used to the feel of your new crown, it will feel completely natural and comfortable in no time.
