Boise Dental Tips: Deep Cleaning Your Mouth

Everyday cleaning is an important part of keeping your teeth and mouth clean and free of damaging bacteria. Brushing and flossing are the most important weapons against tooth decay, but going the extra mile to give your mouth a full, and thorough cleaning can help get rid of tough plaque or other lingering problems. While regular Boise dental cleanings are recommended, it’s good to give your mouth a thorough cleaning on your own in between those cleanings. Not sure how? Below are some simple tips to help you out:

Upgrade your Toothbrush

If you’re still using a regular toothbrush, think about investing in an electric toothbrush. An electric toothbrush is more effective at removing plaque, stuck food and other debris while boosting your prevention of gingivitis. Some electric toothbrushes may be more expensive than others depending on the addition of timers and sensors but these things aren’t really necessary. For a full mouth clean, make sure to brush for a full two minutes at medium pressure.

Be Thorough

To be honest, most people only brush the fronts and backs of their teeth. According to your Boise dentist, you really need to do more than that. Take the time to brush the fronts and backs as well as the tongue, cheeks and roof of your mouth. Mouthwash is also helpful at preventing plaque buildup and bad breath. *Be sure to be extra gentle when brushing the roof of your mouth as this area can easily be rubbed raw.

Bonus Tip

Drink more water! Soda, coffee, tea, and wine can all stain your teeth. Juice is slightly better but the sugar it contains can easily eat away at the enamel if consumed in excess. If you do choose to drink your favored beverage, try drinking a glass of water along with it to help avoid damage to your teeth.

And as always…

Visit your Boise dentist for a thorough examination and Boise teeth cleaning. In addition to using specialized tools to remove any plaque, your Boise dentist can also spot any potential problems or cavities. While daily cleaning are irreplaceable when it comes to your overall Boise dental health, regularly deep cleaning any buildup of bacteria and plaque is also a great way of preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and other potential problems. If you have any on-going concerns or questions about your teeth, your Boise dentist at Summit Dental can offer professional advice that’s specific to you.
