Preventing Tooth Decay With Boise Dental Sealants

As parents, you’ve probably heard about Boise dental sealants but you may be unfamiliar with some of the small, yet important details that go into them. That’s why at Summit Dental Group, we’d like to give you the low-down and provide you with the important facts you need to know to help protect your child from cavities and tooth decay.

What Are Boise Dental Sealant?

Boise dental sealants are a thin coating applied to the grooves of your child’s back teeth to help prevent the penetration of bacteria, sugar, germs and other cavity-causing substances. At Summit Dental Group, our Boise dentists will apply what looks like a thin layer of white nail polish on the chewing surfaces of your child’s teeth. Sealants specifically protect the chewing surfaces of the teeth where cavities commonly start.

How Are They Applied?

Sealants are quick, easy and painless. There is no numbing or drilling required. Once your child’s teeth are cleaned and dried by a hygienist, an adhesive layer is painted onto the teeth followed by the sealant which resembles white or clear nail polish. Only a small amount is needed  to cover the grooves of the teeth. Once the sealant has been applied, your Boise dentist will harden it using a special LED light.

How Do Sealants Last?

When applied correctly, Boise dental sealants can last up to 10 years! While it’s not uncommon for sealants to chip away over time with regular wear and tear, most sealants will last for a number of years to protect your child from unwanted cavities and tooth decay. During every checkup, your Boise dentist will take the time to evaluate the integrity of the sealant and offer to re-apply it as needed.

Our Take On Sealants

Sealants are a wonderful way to protect your child’s teeth. As an added benefit, sealants far outweigh the burden of having to get a filling. All in all, sealants are an excellent way to save you time, money and the stress of having to make unwanted Boise dental appointments for costly treatments. They are easy and quick to apply and can be done at your next checkup appointment without any extra tips to our office. Call us today at (208) 314-2275 to set up your child’s next checkup and see if your child needs sealants!
