Tips to Help Overcome Boise Dental Anxiety

Anxiety associated with a fear of the dentist is one of the most common reasons people avoid routine dental care. Dental anxiety is a real condition that affects many people throughout the Treasure Valley. Often times it is the result of a bad experience in the dentist chair. At Summit Dental Group, we want to help our patients feel calm, confident and in control when they receive our Boise dental treatments.

Our Boise dentist understands the struggles of dental anxiety and takes the time to discuss any concerns you may have. Simply talking about it can help put you at ease. Our Boise dentist will also take the time to fully explain any dental procedure while answering any questions you may have. For many, this can help reduce their anxious feelings and enable them to overcome their dental fears.

It’s important to understand the risks of postponing your routine visit with your Boise dentist. Serious negative outcomes can happen when you avoid the dentist. If left untreated, periodontal disease or tooth decay can lead to major problems including tooth loss. Painful toothaches, stained teeth, and bad breath can also result from skipping your routine visits.

Tips for Overcoming Boise Dental Anxiety

  • Communicate. Talking to your Boise dentist or hygienist about your dental anxiety is completely normal. In fact, we encourage you to do so. It’s ok to feel nervous or ask for a break during your treatment. We want our patients to feel safe and in control. By talking about your concerns, we’ll also be able to tailor your visit based upon your individual needs to ensure the highest level of patient comfort.
  • Make yourself at home in our office. At Summit Dental, our practice is designed to make our patients feel at home. We encourage all of our patients to make themselves comfortable during their visit. If music helps you relax, we invite you to bring it along to listen to while you receive a treatment.
  • Bring someone you trust during your visit. Having a friend or loved one with you can help you relax in an environment that otherwise might make you nervous. We encourage our patients with Boise dental anxiety to bring someone with them to help put them at ease. Additionally, if you are undergoing a procedure that requires any sort of sedation, it’s especially important to have someone accompany you home.

At Summit Dental Group, we know patients can be nervous when it comes to visiting the dentist. We are here to help and never judge anyone about their dental anxiety. Our dedicated team of Boise dental professionals will work with you to help you feel calm and relaxed. We will be more than happy to talk with you during a cleaning, let you see any dental instrument, and explain the process of any procedure during your visit before we get started.
